Randal (Randy) J. Miller

Randal J. “Randy” Miller is a veteran Illinois broadcaster and media entrepreneur whose lifelong career has left a significant imprint on Central Illinois radio. A native of Shelbyville, Illinois, he began his journey in broadcasting in 1973 at the former WSHY AM/FM in Shelbyville shortly after graduating from Shelbyville High School. He then earned an associate degree in applied science (radio broadcasting major) from Lake Land College in 1975, laying the technical and professional foundation for what would become decades of service in local radio.

In 1982, Miller formed his own ownership group under the umbrella of Miller Media Group, building and acquiring a network of local radio stations covering Taylorville, Pana, Shelbyville, Clinton, and other Central Illinois communities. For over four decades he emphasized genuine local service—covering high school sports, community events, city councils, and local news—rather than relying on syndicated content. His stations became trusted voices with deep roots in the communities they served.

In March 2025 Miller announced the sale of Miller Media Group after 43 years of ownership. His influence, however, extended beyond station ownership: he served as a trustee of the Illinois Broadcasters Association, helped launch the Christian County CEO Program, and was active in organizations such as the Taylorville Kiwanis Club and the Lake Land College Foundation. In recognition of his career and civic service, Miller was honored by the Illinois Broadcasters Association as a Broadcaster of the Year in 2025.

Today, Randy Miller is remembered not just as a station owner but as a champion of local journalism and community-centered media in Illinois—a voice for small-town Illinois that emphasized connection, trust, and service. His career stands as a model of how regional broadcasters can make meaningful impact in their markets while upholding high standards of local engagement.
