Job Location: Carterville, IL

Job Summary/Description:

An Engineering Supervisor is comfortable with RF broadcast equipment and transmitters, as well as IP-based newsgathering and IT infrastructure. You will be the backbone of our technical operations, ensuring our content reaches our community on every screen, every time.

Assist the Chief Engineer in directing our engineering, IT, and facilities teams to keep our stations performing at their best. Oversee installation and maintenance of equipment. Ensure safety and compliance. Bridge the gap between traditional broadcast and modern IP communication, making sure our content flows seamlessly across all platforms.

What You’ll Do:
· Lead the technical charge: Assist the Chief Engineer in directing our engineering, IT, and facilities teams to keep the station at the top of its game.
· Own the infrastructure: Oversee the installation and maintenance of everything from audio/video switchers to critical IT systems and RF equipment.
· Manage the daily grind: Help with management of a diverse team of engineers, IT pros, and technical media producers to ensure seamless 24/7 operations.
· Ensure safety and compliance: Serve as a guardian of our standards, potentially acting as the Safety Coordinator and ensuring we’re always in line with FCC and OSHA regulations.
· Drive digital integration: Bridge the gap between traditional broadcast and modern IP communication, making sure our content flows seamlessly across all platforms.
· Support the bottom line: Assist with the preparation and maintenance of the departmental budget to keep our technical operations running efficiently.

Qualifications/Requirements:

What You Bring:
· Broadcast expertise:
You have 5+ years of experience in a broadcast engineering environment (field operations and IP news-gathering experience is a huge plus!).
· Technical versatility:
You’re a pro with digital broadcast equipment—transmitters, encoders, automation systems, and audio consoles are your second language.
· A calm-under-pressure mindset:
You can manage multiple tight deadlines and make clear, smart decisions when things get stressful or unexpected.
· Problem-solving DNA:
You have a deep understanding of both serial and IP communication and a knack for project management.
· Educational foundation:
A bachelor’s degree in engineering, Computer Science, or IT is great, but we also value equivalent real-world experience that proves you know your stuff.
· Flexibility:
You understand that news doesn’t stop at 5 PM; you’re ready to support a 24/7 operation, including occasional nights, weekends, and on-call shifts.
· A valid driver’s license:
You’re ready to head to the transmitter site or into the field whenever the job calls.

Why You’ll Love It Here:
· Innovation at the core: You’ll work with cutting-edge technology in an environment that is constantly evolving to meet the needs of a multi-platform audience.
· Real community impact: Your work ensures that vital news and information reach our neighbors when they need it most.
· A supportive team: Join a group of passionate professionals who value scrappiness, empathy, and high-fives as much as technical precision.
· Growth opportunities: At Gray Media, we don’t just maintain equipment; we grow careers and invest in our people.
